Abstract
The phenomenon of declining discipline and resilience of values among millennial students in Islamic boarding schools is influenced by the rapid flow of information and instant culture through social media which often contradicts the values of tawadhu', ikhlas, and zuhud. This study aims to analyze the role of visionary leadership in Islamic boarding schools in building the character of millennial students. The approach used is a qualitative case study. The research location is at the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School, Blokagung, Banyuwangi. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was checked through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that visionary leadership in Islamic boarding schools plays an important role in building the character of students through three main strategies, namely the integration of character values in the curriculum, the development of exemplary-based mentoring programs, and the implementation of character-based evaluations. This research contributes to strengthening the paradigm of character education based on transformative leadership in Islamic boarding schools. Further research is recommended to use a quantitative or mixed approach, as well as expanding the study to various Islamic boarding schools to obtain more comprehensive and representative results.
