REFRAMING THE ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL CURRICULUM EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION FOR THE POST-TRUTH AND DISINFORMATION ERA

This study aims to analyze how Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) reframe the curriculum as a form of relevant educational innovation in the face of the post-truth and disinformation era. The research method used a qualitative approach with a case study, located at the Blokagung Islamic Boarding School in Banyuwangi, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with caretakers, Islamic boarding school administrators, and students, participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was checked through triangulation of sources, methods, and observers. The results reveal three main findings: first, the role of caretakers as literacy agents who strengthen students' critical attitudes towards information: second, curriculum innovation based on the integration of classical values and digital literacy that bridges tradition and modern needs: third, the urgency of synergy with external stakeholders, including the government, universities, media, and civil society, to strengthen the resilience of Islamic boarding schools from isolation to empowerment. This research contributes to offering a conceptual framework for an adaptive, contextual Islamic boarding school curriculum that is capable of addressing the challenges of global disinformation.

GENEALOGY OF VISIONARY LEADERSHIP ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS BUILDING AN ECOSYSTEM OF SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION

This study aims to analyze the genealogy of visionary leadership in Islamic boarding schools in building a sustainable education ecosystem by examining the process of vision inheritance, leadership practices, and their implications for the education system. The research approach used is qualitative with a case study conducted at the Darussalam Blokagung Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis involved reduction, display, data verification, and conclusion drawing. The results show that visionary leadership in Islamic boarding schools is formed through a combination of traditional charisma, spiritual values, and adaptation to contemporary issues such as sustainability, digitalization, and community empowerment. This leadership has given rise to an educational ecosystem that integrates religion, science, economic independence, and ecological awareness. This study contributes to enriching the literature on Islamic educational leadership and offers a model of pesantren leadership that is relevant to global challenges while supporting the sustainable development agenda..

CAREER DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATORS BASED ON SPIRITUAL MERITOCRACY THROUGH PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND INTEGRITY

This study aims to analyze teacher career development based on spiritual meritocracy through professional competence and moral integrity at Universitas KH. Mukhtar Syafaat (UIMSYA) Blokagung Banyuwangi as the research site. The research focuses on three main instruments: professional training programs such as Outcome Based Education (OBE)-based course design, Internal Quality Audit (AMI), and academic publications on pesantren themes through an International Conference. This research employed a qualitative case study method. A total of 63 informants were involved, consisting of the Rector, Vice Rector I, the Dean of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, and faculty lecturers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that OBE-based training improved lecturers’ pedagogical competence and teaching innovation, AMI strengthened quality culture, accountability, and moral integrity in academic careers, while academic publications through international conferences expanded global scholarly networks and enhanced lecturers’ research capacity. The research contribution of this discussion is to show that the OBE training program, Internal Quality Audit (AMI), and scholarly publications with a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) theme through international conferences collectively enhance lecturers' pedagogical competence and learning innovation, strengthen the quality culture, accountability, and moral integrity in academic careers, and expand the global academic network as well as increase lecturers' research capacity.

MODEL BEYOND PUNISHMENT LEADERSHIP: INTEGRATION OF ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL VALUES AND SCHOOL WELL-BEING PARADIGM

This study aims to describe the reorientation of school leadership toward a youth-friendly school environment within an Islamic boarding school context. The persistence of punitive disciplinary practices highlights the need for a paradigm shift from authoritarian leadership toward a humanistic approach. The research was conducted at SMKNU Darussalam Rejoagung Srono, Banyuwangi, selected for its unique characteristics as a vocational school integrated with a pesantren system that blends religious values with modern formal education. This context provides a distinctive setting to explore the leadership transformation in managing adolescent students under the traditional pesantren discipline culture. The study employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that the principal has reoriented leadership practices by emphasizing dialogue, empathy, and student participation as the foundation of positive discipline. This transformation fosters a supportive learning climate that promotes adolescents’ psychological well-being while integrating pesantren values such as uswah (exemplary conduct), rahmah (compassion), and tarbiyah bil hikmah (educating with wisdom) into modern leadership practices. The novelty of this study lies in the development of a “Beyond Punishment Leadership” model that integrates pesantren-based spiritual values with the school well-being paradigm as a framework for building youth-friendly schools in Islamic educational contexts.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana kepercayaan santri dan wali santri membentuk model ekuitas merek brand equity pesantren melalui pendekatan fenomenologis. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif jenis studi kasus, penelitian ini berfokus pada Pondok Pesantren Mukhtar Syafaat yang dipimpin oleh KH. Ahmad Qusyairi Syafa’at, seorang ulama kharismatik yang memadukan dimensi spiritual, sosial, dan kultural dalam membangun citra lembaga. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi terhadap lima kelompok informan utama: pengasuh pondok, ketua bidang pendidikan, guru diniyyah, santri, dan wali santri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekuitas merek pesantren terbentuk melalui relasi religius-emosional yang kuat antara kiai, santri, dan wali santri, di mana kepercayaan, penghormatan, dan keberkahan menjadi fondasi legitimasi sosial pesantren. Selain itu, temuan menunjukkan adanya digital trust yang memperkuat trust branding melalui transparansi digital seperti sistem e-payment, publikasi laporan online, dan live streaming pengajian. Kombinasi antara tradisi religius dan transparansi digital ini membentuk konsep hybrid trust, yakni pola kepercayaan baru yang menggabungkan otentisitas spiritual dengan keterbukaan modern. Secara teoritis, penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam memperluas pemahaman tentang ekuitas merek berbasis kepercayaan dalam konteks pendidikan Islam; sedangkan secara praktis, hasilnya menjadi rujukan strategis bagi pesantren dalam membangun reputasi dan legitimasi melalui sinergi nilai tradisi dan inovasi digital.

This study aims to analyze the role of visionary leadership in shaping an organizational culture that fosters a collaborative and innovative learning environment at SMK Darussalam. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, as the phenomena of leadership and organizational culture require an in-depth understanding through participants’ interpretations in the field. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with the main informants including the principal, vice principal for curriculum, teachers, and students selected purposively. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, display, and verification using content, discourse, and interpretive analysis. The findings reveal that visionary leadership acts as the driving force behind the creation of an organizational culture oriented toward collaboration, innovation, and adaptation to changing times. The principal plays a key role in formulating a long-term vision that cultivates creativity among school members, while a strong organizational culture serves as the foundation for a dynamic and competitive learning environment. The contribution of this study lies in reinforcing the paradigm that synergy between visionary leadership and a positive organizational culture can serve as a model for 21st-century school development that is collaborative, innovative, and character-driven.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY OF ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS: ANALYSIS OF EXTERNAL THREATS AND MITIGATION STRATEGIES IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT

This study aims to analyze the external threats faced by Islamic boarding schools and formulate sustainable mitigation strategies through a risk management approach in a global context. The research method used a qualitative approach with a case study conducted at the Mukhtar Syafaat Islamic Boarding School in Blokagung, Banyuwangi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and audio analysis, then analyzed using Miles & Huberman's interactive model, which includes reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, methods, and observers. The results of the study show that Islamic boarding schools face challenges in the form of national and international regulations, economic dependence on limited resources, and technological disruption. However, mitigation strategies based on Islamic values and collaboration with the government, the business world, and educational institutions are able to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of Islamic boarding schools. The contribution of this research is to offer an integrative, applicable value-based risk management model, while also providing practical recommendations for the development of Islamic education policies to be more adaptive and visionary.

KINSHIP SYSTEM AS WORD-OF-MOUTH MARKETING: A CASE STUDY OF ALUMNI NETWORKS AND STUDENT GUARDIANS IN ENHANCING THE REPUTATION OF ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS

This study aims to reveal how kinship systems function as a word-of-mouth marketing strategy in strengthening the reputation of Islamic boarding school–based universities through the social networks of alumni, students’ parents, active students, and local majelis taklim communities. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design at an Islamic higher education institution known for its extensive alumni network and strong emotional ties with the surrounding community. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of social–religious activities, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that kinship relations and emotional bonds among alumni and students’ parents serve as effective social instruments in building a positive image of the pesantren-based university. Through informal communication, alumni testimonials and parental experiences generate a multiplication effect that expands the institution’s reputation into the broader community, especially through religious gatherings such as majelis taklim and alumni meetings. This study contributes to the development of social capital theory within Islamic education and offers an alternative model of educational institution promotion grounded in trust, spirituality, and sustainable social networking.

RELIGIOUS SOCIAL PROOF: MEASURING THE IMPACT OF USING INFLUENCERS AND RELIGIOUS FIGURES IN MARKETING CAMPAIGNS FOR ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA ERA

This study aims to measure the impact of religious social proof through the use of influencers and religious leaders in the marketing campaign of Islamic boarding school (pesantren) education in the era of social media. The research employed a qualitative approach with a field study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Asy-Syafi’iyyah Darul Qur’an Kundur Utara. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was examined through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The findings reveal that the combination of influencers and kyai significantly expands audience reach, religious social proof drives the increase of new student enrollment, and alumni testimonies serve as a social legitimacy instrument that strengthens the pesantren’s image. This research contributes to the development of Islamic education communication strategies in the digital era, particularly in optimizing social media as a medium for da’wah and pesantren promotion without losing its religious authenticity.

BEHIND THE SCENES: RETHINKING STUDENT TRACKING FOR HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

This study aims to critically examine student tracking practices in educational institutions and review their relevance to holistic student development. The focus of the study is on how tracking systems that differentiate students based on academic ability can impact their cognitive, affective, and social development. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with a case study approach in a high school that implemented a tracking system for both advanced and regular classes. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of school documents. The results indicate that student tracking has two sides: on the one hand, it improves teaching effectiveness for high-ability students, but on the other hand, it has the potential to create social disparities and decrease motivation for students in regular classes. These findings emphasize the importance of transforming the educational paradigm toward a more humanistic and collaborative approach, where each student is viewed as a unique individual with diverse potential. This study's contribution lies in its effort to offer a holistic development-based tracking model that balances academic, emotional, and social aspects, thus serving as a reference for educational institutions in designing more inclusive and equitable policies.

MANAJEMEN PENDIDIKAN BERBASIS HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN UNTUK MENCIPTAKAN PENGALAMAN BELAJAR YANG PERSONAL DAN BERMAKNA

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji penerapan manajemen pendidikan berbasis Human-Centered Design (HCD) dalam menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang personal dan bermakna bagi peserta didik. Pendekatan HCD menempatkan kebutuhan, minat, dan karakteristik siswa sebagai pusat perancangan sistem pembelajaran, dengan mengedepankan empati, kolaborasi, dan inovasi. Penelitian dilakukan di MTs Al-Amiriyyah Darussalam dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi terhadap guru, siswa, dan kepala madrasah yang telah menerapkan prinsip HCD dalam pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan HCD mendorong pengembangan kurikulum yang fleksibel, memperkuat kolaborasi antara guru, siswa, dan orang tua, serta memanfaatkan teknologi sebagai alat personalisasi pembelajaran. Pendekatan ini terbukti meningkatkan keterlibatan, motivasi, dan hasil belajar siswa. Temuan ini memperkuat bahwa HCD merupakan strategi manajerial yang efektif dalam menciptakan pendidikan yang inklusif, adaptif, dan berorientasi pada potensi individu siswa.

AKREDITASI INSTITUSI SEBAGAI CERMIN MUTU HOLISTIK: ANALISIS DAMPAK DAN STRATEGI ADAPTASI PERGURUAN TINGGI PESANTREN TERHADAP STANDAR NASIONAL PENDIDIKAN TINGGI

Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis peran akreditasi institusi sebagai cermin mutu holistik di perguruan tinggi berbasis pesantren, sekaligus mengidentifikasi strategi adaptasi yang diterapkan Politeknik Darussalam Blokagung Banyuwangi dalam menghadapi standar nasional pendidikan tinggi (SNPT). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif untuk memahami peran akreditasi sebagai cermin mutu holistik dan strategi adaptasi Politeknik Darussalam Blokagung terhadap SNPT. Subjek penelitian meliputi manajemen institusi, dosen, staf, dan mahasiswa. Teknik pengumpulan data mencakup wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi resmi. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan secara induktif. Keabsahan dijaga melalui triangulasi, member checking, dan audit trail. Pendekatan ini memungkinkan pemahaman kontekstual integrasi aspek akademik, sosial, dan budaya pesantren dalam mencapai standar nasional pendidikan tinggi. Hasil Penilitian ini menunjukkan Bahwa Akreditasi institusi berperan sebagai cermin mutu holistik di Politeknik Darussalam Blokagung, mencakup kualitas akademik, manajerial, dan sosial. Selain menjadi penilaian formal, akreditasi mendorong peningkatan kompetensi dosen, kualitas pembelajaran, serta keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam kegiatan akademik dan non-akademik. Integrasi nilai-nilai pesantren dalam kurikulum dan aktivitas akademik memungkinkan lulusan memiliki kompetensi nasional sekaligus karakter religius yang kuat. Keberhasilan akreditasi juga meningkatkan persepsi positif civitas akademika dan masyarakat, memperkuat reputasi institusi, serta menjadi dasar strategi adaptasi dan pengembangan untuk menjaga mutu pendidikan holistik yang relevan, kompetitif, dan berkarakter.

CHARISM, CREDIBILITY, AND CREATIVITY: AN ANALYSIS OF THE LEADERSHIP STYLE OF KIAI-RECTOR IN BUILDING AN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM IN ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOLS

This study aims to analyze the role of charisma, credibility, and creativity in the leadership style of Kiai-Rectors in building an innovation ecosystem in Islamic boarding school universities. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study was conducted at KH. Mukhtar Syafaat University, Blokagung, Banyuwangi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation study, with the main informants being university leaders and administrators, lecturers, and students as supporting informants. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman's interactive model, namely reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions from the data, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, methods, and observers. The results of the study show that the charisma of the Kiai-Rector becomes social-intellectual capital that strengthens leadership legitimacy. Hybrid credibility integrates traditional and intellectual authority to create inclusive leadership. Creativity and collaboration are adaptive strategies for dealing with digital disruption through curriculum innovation and digital teaching media, such as multimedia and broadcasting campus services for producing broadcast programs, short films, campus event documentation, and other digital content. In addition, international collaboration in research and community service is strengthened by strengthening networks between researchers in different countries. This research contributes to enriching the concept of modern Islamic boarding school leadership by emphasizing that the charismatic, credible, and creative leadership style of the Kiai-Rector can serve as a transformative model for Islamic higher education institutions in the digital era.

LEAD OR BE LEFT BEHIND: ADAPTASI KEPEMIMPINAN PENDIDIKAN TERHADAP GENERASI DIGITAL NATIVE

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk adaptasi kepemimpinan pendidikan yang holistik dan kontekstual dalam menghadapi tantangan generasi digital native guna memastikan relevansi dan keberlanjutan institusi pendidikan di era disrupsi digital. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus yang dilakukan di SMA Darussalam Blokagung Banyuwangi. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipan, dan studi dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman melalui tahap reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Pemeriksaan keabsahan data dilakukan dengan triangulasi sumber, metode, dan pengamat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adaptasi kepemimpinan digital-adaptif masih bersifat sporadis, dipengaruhi oleh literasi digital, usia, dan keterbukaan kepala sekolah terhadap inovasi. Kepemimpinan yang efektif terbukti menuntut kemampuan integratif antara penguasaan teknologi, komunikasi empatik, dan budaya kolaboratif. Kontribusi penelitian ini terletak pada pengembangan konsep kepemimpinan holistik digital-adaptif sebagai strategi transformatif bagi institusi pendidikan di era digital.

FROM AUTHORITY TO AUTHENTICITY: PARADIGM SHIFT IN SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TOWARDS AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP IN THE GEN Z ERA

Based on the results of the research entitled "From Authority to Authenticity: Paradigm Shifts in School Leadership Towards Authentic Leadership in the Gen Z Era", it can be concluded that there has been a profound transformation in school leadership practices from authoritative patterns to authentic leadership that is more humanistic, reflective, and adaptive to the characteristics of the digital generation. Effective leadership in the Gen Z era is no longer determined by formal positions, but by the ability of school principals to build relational relationships based on trust, empathy, and moral consistency. The authenticity of the principal has proven to be a major factor that increases the engagement of young teachers through honesty, openness, and participation in decision-making. In addition, the transformation of leadership communication to a humanized digital format strengthens emotional closeness and increases the loyalty of school residents. The use of digital media such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube makes interactions more warm, responsive, and inclusive. Thus, authentic leadership in the Gen Z era plays an important role in creating a school culture that is collaborative, adaptive, and oriented towards human values, thus becoming a relevant and sustainable leadership model for the modern world of education.

The main objective of this study is to analyze how the charisma and continuity of kiai leadership play a role in the reproduction of pesantren values in the digital era at Pondok Pesantren Puncak Banyuwangi. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to understand the role of charisma and continuity of kiai leadership in the reproduction of pesantren values in the digital era at Pondok Pesantren Puncak Banyuwangi. Data were obtained from kiai, teachers, and santri through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Analysis was conducted thematically through coding, categorization, and interpretation to identify patterns of value reproduction, digital adaptation, and the influence of charisma. Source and technique triangulation were used to maintain data validity. The results are expected to become a model of adaptive, sustainable, and relevant pesantren leadership. The results of this study indicate that the leadership of kiai at Pondok Pesantren Puncak Banyuwangi plays an important role in the reproduction of pesantren values in the digital era through personal charisma, structural continuity, and technological integration. The charisma of the kiai serves as a moral and spiritual example, leadership continuity maintains social and cultural stability, while technology supports learning without diminishing exemplary behavior. The reproduction of pesantren values occurs through social interaction, behavioral observation, and digital adaptation. This leadership model demonstrates an effective combination of tradition and modernity and is relevant to the development of sustainable Islamic education.

The purpose of this study is to examine in depth the potential and challenges of implementing financial technology (fintech) in creating financing innovations that can increase economic independence. This research focuses on digital-based Islamic boarding school financing innovations, specifically the application of financial technology to increase economic independence at the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Blokagung, Banyuwangi. The research design uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. This approach was chosen because it allows researchers to explore in depth the context, dynamics, and unique experiences in implementing digital-based financing innovations. The research design uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman Interactive Model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the implementation of digital-based financing innovation through financial technology can improve the efficiency of fund management and expand the economic access of Islamic boarding school students. The financial digitalization program through the Islamic Boarding School Information System (SIS), a payment application, along with sharia-compliant investments and collaboration with Islamic financial institutions, encourages the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools, increases efficiency, transparency, and accountability, and opens access to capital, strengthening the economic independence of Islamic boarding schools in a sustainable manner. This research contribution provides a model for the implementation of digital-based financial technology in Islamic boarding schools that can be used as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in increasing economic independence, fund management efficiency, and financial transparency and accountability in a sustainable manner.
